Energy - Rated

A, B, and C Energy Rated Windows

Following stringent testing from the British Fenestration Ratings Council (BFRC), DDG have successfully attained its new accreditation for the energy efficiency of its windows using Kömmerling Connoisseur and Gold profile.

The advantages of Energy Rated Windows:

* Energy efficient windows can save money by reducing energy use and directly reducing heating bills. For an average three bedroom house this could result in a saving of approx £110 a year on the energy bill.

* Window heat losses can account for over 20% of total heat lost from a house. This can be significantly reduced by using energy efficient windows. And don't forget: the more heat you retain the more energy – and money – you save.

* Noise Reduction. Energy efficient double glazed units can reduce noise transmission by up to 2db .

* Energy efficient windows reduce condensation. It reduces condensation by up to 70% virtually eliminating the potential breeding ground for bacteria, mould and dust mites that can be harmful to people with respiratory diseases

* Energy efficient windows improve the comfort of homes by providing uniform temperatures throughout the house. They can dramatically increase the amount of effective and usable living space.

* Energy efficient windows save energy and reduce greenhouse gases.

* The lifetime cost of heat lost through a window is greater than the purchase cost.

How will it make my home more energy efficient?

Simply using Energy Rated Window reduces the amount of energy lost through windows by up to 90%.

That's enough energy to:

• Run 9 televisions for a year

* Drive over 600 miles in an average sized car
* Make 34,000 cups of tea

How does the Window Energy Rating system work?

It rates the energy efficiency of windows from A to G, with A the highest - just as you may have noticed on fridges, freezers and washing machines.

The system measures the whole window, glass and frame. It combines three factors that affect energy performance: heat loss, solar heat gain and heat loss through air infiltration.

Then it measures kilowatt-hours per square meter per year (kWh/m2/yr). This shows you the flow of energy across the whole window. A positive rating means the window is actually a net contributor of energy (good).

Choosing energy saving windows may seem a long way from saving the planet, but the insulating properties of the thermally efficient spacer bar are such that they can help reduce heat loss by a staggering 94% through your new windows!

What Grade is Recommended?

The Energy Saving Trust recommends a minimum energy rating of at least ‘C' or better and a ‘C' energy rated window is 90% more energy efficient than a double glazed K-Glass window.
